You have a film in you. You feel it. It's the story you keep telling at dinner, the scene you replay in the car, the thing you said you'd shoot "when things settle down." Things don't settle.

This week you make it… and you make it in a genre.

Thriller. Horror. Film noir. Romance. Comedy. Western. Sci-fi. Drama. European art house.

Pick the one that scares you, because genre gives you rules, and the rules are where you find out what you do under pressure. What you bend break or kneel to. Horror wants your dread. Noir wants your guilt. Comedy wants your timing and will expose you the second you try to be funny. The western wants a man standing still. Art house wants you to sit in a silence longer than you can take. Romance wants what you hear is least willing to say out loud. And drama, the one everybody thinks is safe, is the hardest room in the house, because there is nothing to hide behind but you. The genre will hold you to it.

Five days. Five minutes on the big screen. Every job... writer, director, actor, editor. Monday you walk in with an idea, I autopsy the body with you, until we find the parts that are alive, which is almost never the parts you pitched. Tuesday, we write, first draft ugly and done, no polishing a scene that doesn't exist yet. Wednesday and Thursday you shoot, seeking the question instead of a result. Then you cut it. You watch your own face do the thing you swore you didn't do. You cut around it, or you keep it, because sometimes the flinch is the truth.

Friday night we screen. Audience. Lights down. Your name on the wall. No excuses, no "it's not finished… it’s living.

These films will Premiere as the launch of The Markland Studio's YouTube Channel on January 8th, 2027. Your film goes out the door with the studio's name next to yours. The first thing the channel ever shows is you.

This is not a filmmaking class. It's the same work I do with you on personal truth, pointed at the whole machine. The hidden, the unresolved, the thing you'd rather not put on camera... that's your material. What you're hiding is what will make five minutes’ worth watching. You will leave with a film you can send.
