They won’t bring us into the room anymore, so let’s bring the room to them.
You must be seen, or you will be invisible. Casting Directors, Producers and Directors do what they do because they love storytelling. They have ALL been moved by theatre. Every one of us has experienced actors who’ve ripped open our chests and grabbed our hearts. So, let’s do that, because the business and technology is trying to pull us further and further apart.
This class will run more like a workshop and rehearsal process for a series of “pop up” shows. If people find it a drag on Friday or Saturday night to get in the car and go sit in a theater, then let’s take it out of the theater. Let’s do one in a warehouse, another in a church, one at Griffith Park and maybe one on the beach.
Let’s strip it down and let the when, when, and how be as creative as the acting... something different, an adventure, something that wakes up the LOVE we all have for this.
The material will be scenes from modern plays and films but with the guts torn out of them. They will be reimagined... reborn. We want people watching and a minute into it say, “Oh shit, this is....” We must stop doing what has been done before - they are, and that’s why they’re getting pulled towards technology and ARTIFICIAL creativity.
Let’s make a lot of noise and give them a chance to remember and reconnect to why they do this.
This will be a collaboration, teamwork, no one is just an actor... you’ll be helping with locations, staging, lights, sound and whatever else is needed to create these events.
