Teen Workshop

Presence, Tension, Trust
Owning Yourself

with John Markland
Hosted By Danielle Keaton

november 18th & 19th

“Become the actor who everyone wonders, how did they do that?”

Teen actors this is your opportunity to work with John Markland and learn the techniques of The Markland Studio. This workshop will include scene work, character development, and the challenge to receive direction in real time. The session will close out with a Q&A with actors, directors, and producers making some of todays favorite shows and films.

There are certain elements to the craft of acting that separate the good from the great. Presence, the ability to pull the attention of anyone nearby toward you is power. Tension, the capacity to hold contradicting forces or to contain something explosive allows you to command. Trust, the willingness to believe in the truth and ability of others and you is the key to confidence. These three elements together let you own yourself – I am who I am with no apology.

This workshop will challenge you to explore and discover more of the rare, unusual, unique qualities that make you unlike any other. We will practice how to hold all the different pieces and not hide or discard any to be what we think others may want. We will gain tools and methods to create tension, and evoke trust, and evolve through acting. We will learn how to personalize the character so there is authentic emotional experience and not just performance. We will learn the power of presence and how acceptance is a doorway to empathy.

You’ll feel a deep sense of truth when you say, “I know who I am, and I am choosing who I will become. ”

Must have acting experience and be 14 to 17 yrs. old.
